Megan O'Day specializes in harm reduction-sterile syringe access, overdose prevention, naloxone distribution, HIV and viral hepatitis prevention and health education, food security and street outreach. Megan's objective is to develop and provide health services and interventions, which enrich and protect the populations ACRC serves. She does so through using a broad spectrum of skills and experience. Megan has used her skill set to succeed in her professional experience including serving as AIDS Community Research Consortium's (ACRC) Executive Director since 2010.
Prior to taking on the role as ACRC's ED, Megan was the Director of Prevention Programs since 2006, which was an extension of the work she did as the Sr. outreach worker and Assistant Director at AIDS Prevention Action Network (APAN). For more than 12 years, Megan has been committed to providing prevention and harm reduction services by reducing the spread of HIV, viral hepatitis and STD.
ACRC empowers clients, communities, and their partners through nutrition, education, prevention, consultation, and advocacy. To extend the impact of those services, Megan has contributed to local, state and national campaigns to pass new overdose prevention and syringe access laws, strengthen patient rights in methadone and Subutex programs, and improve access to healthcare for the homeless and drug using communities. Megan's passion is to implement evidence-based practices that reduce the negative health consequences of drug use and other high-risk behaviors so that men and women face recovery without the added burdens of costly crippling disease.
Megan's envisions a future where there's a supportive community free of new HIV infections, and where individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis lead healthy and productive lives without stigma and discrimination.
