Linda Calvert is a patient advocate, Navigator, and senior helper who empowers others who feel oppressed or downtrodden. She often accompanies individuals and helps them succeed in completing the task at hand as they take charge of their own lives. Her approach to advocacy is a direct result of her own life experiences.
Calvert has volunteered in her community since 1982, first as a Head Start parent helping at the Vallejo center organizing fundraisers to raise money for the children's graduation and educational materials for the center. She was nominated and elected as chairperson of the Parent Policy Counsel for Solano County and served in that capacity for four years.
In 1992, Calvert became a Registered Veterinary Technician, after receiving an AS in Animal Health Technology and graduating with honors from Consumnes River College in Sacramento, California. She has worked at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis in Small Animal Nursing, Intensive Care Nursing and mentoring veterinary students through their clinics while caring for patients. Calvert has also worked with medical doctors assisting them learning new procedures in laparoscopy and total hip replacement. Her extensive background in animal medicine and physiology would see her through her biggest challenge which arose in the year 2000 when she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. Not much information was readily available at that time, so she became her own patient advocate. Her experience navigating the healthcare system led Calvert to become a certified Hepatitis C educator, a a support group facilitator and eventually an In Home Supportive Services Provider. To this day, she continues to give impromptu talks in small groups with the rallying call, "Don't give up the fight!"
